MEDICAL CLEARANCE – PRE-ADMISSION
A member of our staff will call you prior to your surgery date in order to confirm the details of your surgery, complete a pre-admission questionnaire, provide you with your pre-operative instructions, and review your current medications. You will also be scheduled for a Covid-19 test. Pre-admission appointments are available Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You will need to provide a list of all medications with dosage including over-the-counter medication.
Please inform the staff member of any daily medication including name, dosage, and frequency. Be sure to mention any over-the-counter drugs such as Aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, alcohol, recreational drugs, or herbal supplements you take. You will be given instructions by your surgeon and/or anesthesiologist for medications you may take the morning of surgery.
To make sure you are healthy enough to tolerate your procedure, your surgeon may require you to be seen by an internal medicine doctor prior to your surgery. At this appointment, you may have tests completed, such as blood, urine or an electrocardiogram (EKG) to evaluate your heart. You will discuss your medical history with a pre-admission nurse and one of our internal medicine physicians. The results of this appointment will confirm that you are ready for surgery. If necessary, you may be required to see a heart or lung doctor as well. To schedule an appointment for pre-admission testing, please call 214.407.5166.
If your procedure involves a general anesthetic or other types of sedation, please arrange for a responsible adult to remain at the hospital during surgery and accompany you home. You may want to have a spouse or friend stay with you the first night following surgery. If the patient is a child, it is best to have someone along with the driver to help care for the child on the trip home. Please bring a medical power of attorney or legal documents with you on the day of surgery.
To make your home safe and practical after your surgery, a number of simple changes can be made. Your physical therapist may have additional suggestions for you during your hospitalization.

• Leave your valuables, including jewelry and watches, at home.
• Do not wear contact lenses or make-up.
• If you are taking prescription and/or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements, please bring a complete list containing the dosage(s) or the actual medicine bottles.
• If you are being admitted to the hospital after surgery, bring prescription medications in original pharmacy containers.
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Frisco uses hospital beds designed to aid in your treatment and provide you with options for comfort. Your nurse will show you how to properly use the controls that will enable you to adjust your bed. Additionally, your hospital bed is probably higher and narrower than your bed at home. Bedside rails are for your protection. They may be raised at night or during the day if you’re resting, recovering from surgery, or taking certain medications.
Wholesome, nourishing, and well-balanced meals are an important part of your treatment and recovery. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Frisco makes every effort to provide nutritious meals prepared according to your doctor’s orders. An executive chef trained in the dietary needs of patients strives to prepare foods that are pleasing to the eyes and the taste buds. Our “Dine on Demand” program allows patients to choose their food and have it delivered to their room. Meals are served to patients between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and are delivered within 45 minutes of ordering. Occasionally, your meal may be delayed if you are scheduled for a special test or treatment. Whenever possible, we will serve your meal after your examination or test. Inpatients may have one free meal delivered to their room for a guest.
