PRE-REGISTRATION
A staff member will call you before your surgery to gather pre-registration information.  Pre-registering will streamline your experience on the day of surgery.

MEDICAL CLEARANCE – PRE-ADMISSION
A staff member will call you before your surgery date to confirm the details of your surgery, complete a pre-admission questionnaire, provide you with your pre-operative instructions, and review your current medications. You will also be scheduled for a Covid-19 test.  Pre-admission appointments are available Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You must provide a list of all medications with dosage, including over-the-counter medication.

Please inform the staff member of any daily medication, including name, dosage, and frequency. Be sure to mention any over-the-counter drugs such as Aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, alcohol, recreational drugs, or herbal supplements you take. You will be given instructions by your surgeon and/or anesthesiologist for medications you may take the morning of surgery.

PRE-ADMISSION TESTING
To ensure you are healthy enough to tolerate your procedure, your surgeon may require you to be seen by an internal medicine doctor before your surgery. At this appointment, you may have tests completed, such as blood, urine, or an electrocardiogram (EKG), to evaluate your heart. You will discuss your medical history with a pre-admission nurse and one of our internal medicine physicians. The results of this appointment will confirm that you are ready for surgery. If necessary, you may be required to see a heart or lung doctor as well. To schedule an appointment for pre-admission testing, please call 214.407.5166.

If your procedure involves a general anesthetic or other types of sedation, please arrange for a responsible adult to remain at the hospital during surgery and accompany you home. You may want to have a spouse or friend stay with you the first night following surgery. If the patient is a child, it is best to have someone with the driver to help care for the child on the trip home. Please bring all medical power of attorney or legal documents with you on the day of surgery.

HOME MODIFICATIONS
To make your home safe and practical after your surgery, several simple changes can be made. Your physical therapist may have additional suggestions for you during your hospitalization.
