Director Laboratory Services / Full-time, Days

 

With input from the Medical Director the Laboratory Director has the responsibility and authority of planning, organizing, controlling, coordinating and evaluating the activities and functions of the Laboratory Department. He/she directs and coordinates all department activities to assure continuous monitoring of hospital-wide Performance Improvement.  

Responsible for all departmental functions in support of the hospital mission, vision, and facility goals; identifies the cost-effective systems needed to support the business of the department taking into account business trends, resource availability and changes in customers. 

Establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, and vendors; works with SVP of Clinical Services and Senior Management in meeting Facility goals and under supervision and control of the Laboratory Medical Director in matters pertaining to tests performed on patients.

Provides administrative, technical, educational, and coordinating support to ensure efficient and accurate testing for all areas; coordinates and communicates with reference labs and ancillary departments.  Monitors staff compliance of policies/procedures that meet federal and state regulations and accreditation standards. 

Provides technical guidance to staff regarding lab tests and procedures, monitors control checks, proficiency testing, periodic maintenance on equipment and assists with patient care as needed. Analyzes data and coordinates development of reports for Medical Director review and approval.

Coordinates and guides the preparation of departmental policies and procedures, and maintenance of documentation in successful compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Annually develops laboratory’s operating and capital budgets incorporating the goals and objectives of the laboratory and the organization.

Consistently punctual, follows proper protocols for absenteeism and plans time off in advance to ensure proper coverage for department.

Establishes confidence in others by focusing on work in order to achieve accurate and consistent results.
